Do
I really need insurance for my holiday?
The short answer is "Yes!"
The long answer is "Absolutely yes!"

In
all the planning and organising of your winter or summer holiday
- accommodation, flights, transfers and the rest - it's all too
easy to overlook something that doesn't actually contribute to
the holiday itself. However without good insurance you may
remember the holiday for all the wrong reasons.
Thankfully it doesn't need to be too expensive, difficult or
time-consuming to arrange.
There's lots of on-line
advice that can help to point you in the right direction, and of
course an insurance broker can answer any specific questions you
have. There are quite a few on-line brokers that have lots
of information and you can often get immediate quotes. |

You may
already have some cover from things like
a credit card and household insurance -
but the cover is usually very limited
and rarely sufficient. Also, the
European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) should cover you for necessary, state-provided medical treatment in
the EU but you must take the card with you, and it doesn't cover
everything in the event of a skiing accident, like getting you
off the mountain or repatriation (European Health Insurance Card
- www.ehic.org.uk). |

Typically, it all boils down to providing cover for costs
relating to:
 |
People - if you're ill or have an accident, or against
damages if someone claims against you. |
 |
Things - if your belongings are lost, stolen or broken. |
 |
Events - expenses arising from travel delays, missed
departures, closure of pistes. |

For
more information you might find the links below helpful,
particularly in obtaining EHIC (don't leave it too late to
apply!). We have also included links to an affiliate JS
Insurance (FSA regulated) where you can review options, and
where quotes can be obtained and policies purchased easily
on-line.

You
should take your EHIC (it's free to obtain as a UK resident)
and you should have the right holiday insurance for your needs. |

In the end
buying holiday insurance has to be your
personal decision, and with a bit of
checking around most people won't have a
problem finding what's right for them.
But if you are unsure it really is worth
getting some professional guidance.
